Session 1 & 2 Description
Understanding State-Provided Growth Measures for Grades 4-8 Teachers and Principals and Grades 9-12 Principals
Time: 120 minutes
Using slides and script provided, presenter will describe the basis for the calculation used for the State-provided growth measures for grades 4-8 teachers and principals and grade 9-12 principals.
For grades 4-8 teachers and principals, included in this description is information about: how student growth is determined; what a student growth percentile (SGP) is; how SGPs are used to develop teacher and principal mean growth percentiles; what characteristics are considered to determine similar students for these measures; how students are attributed to teachers and principals; and how teacher and principal State-provided growth scores and ratings are determined.
For principals of grades 9-12, information will be presented on how student growth is determined; what a student growth percentile (SGP) is; how the grades 9-12 principal mean growth percentile is calculated; how the grades 9-12 principal comparative growth in Regents exams passed measure is calculated; what characteristics are considered to determine similar students for these measures; how students are attributed to grades 9-12 principals; and how grades 9-12 principal State-provided growth scores and ratings are determined.
Additional materials are included in the appendix to the slides and can be used with audiences who have not previously been trained on the State-provided growth measures.
